Fashion illustration ignited Mariaclara Golfo's creative journey, establishing the foundation for a multidisciplinary practice spanning traditional painting, sustainable fashion design, and human-centered innovation. Her path has woven through fashion startups to leading design teams at Brit + Co, Samsung, Spotify, and Netflix, where she designed tools for thousands of global users.
As a dedicated catalyst for positive change, Mariaclara makes sense out of complexity while offering solutions to human and environmental challenges through collaborative, human-centered approaches. Her creative practice compelled her to analyze the impact of creating—from both narrative and waste perspectives—leading her to pursue a Master's in Sustainable Fashion Technology at IED Istituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona.
There, she explored the critical question: What responsibility do we have as creators to create consciously? Her thesis project leveraged user research and CLO3D to devise virtual collections where users could infuse their perspectives into the garment creation process through a modular design system. Her work evolved into Synchh, where she partnered with Born Knitting Engineers to prototype a smart garment and SaaS platform aimed at reducing textile waste, selected as one of 10 ventures to present at ISEM Fashion Business School's fashion-tech showcase in Madrid.
Returning to Brooklyn in 2023, Golfo placed third among 64 talented artists in a group show at Greenpoint Gallery, leading to her first solo exhibition, "Finding the In Between." This collection of original oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings alongside digital line art pieces guided viewers through a visual narrative of finding identity across blurred lines.
Currently, she creates at Greenpoint Gallery Studio while threading the needle between art on cotton canvas and patchwork collage from rescued textiles. Working with pre-consumer textile waste, she explores fashion art as a means to extend textiles' lifecycles through new forms. Additionally, she is writing her first memoir, leveraging her passion for poetry and personal narrative.
Golfo is a systems thinker who balances intuition with structure, strategy with soul, and pragmatism with emotional depth. Her multidisciplinary practice asks essential questions: What makes a textile disposable? How can we create beauty while honoring our environmental responsibilities? Through painting, sustainable fashion design, and innovative problem-solving, she seeks to transform complexity into clarity, waste into wonder, and individual expression into collective consciousness.
