In the US, tech companies just experienced a ‘great resignation’. Many people in tech have left their posts for a variety of reasons. An understanding of employee attrition requires research. Companies can benefit from Human Centered Design approaches that uncover people’s needs and challenges. This is true for ‘Users’ but also internal teams to better understand working dynamics. Collaborative service design workshops can enable understanding and solution-oriented approaches to address process paint points.

Methodology

Discovery

User archetypes help companies understand groups of people who have dependencies and offer services for Supply chain and Agile systems. Identifying and organizing foundational needs and challenges can help us uncover solutions to company culture and productivity challenges.

Framing

Discovery artifacts help inform challenge prioritization. Collaborative department wide workshops can ensure consensus and adoption for new solutions – leaving room for innovative solutions that would otherwise go unheard. This approach helps narrow our focus before ideating on potential solutions. Solution ideas inspire what we then devise and concept test.

Benefits

There are many advantages for adopting a human-centred design approach to business teams: the project team unites behind a common goal (by really understanding why they are designing, along with the needs of the people they’re designing for); the risk of project failure is mitigated as concepts and ideas are validated throughout the project; and the project team narrows its focus onto a smaller number of key features that are specific to the user’s needs.

Where do you see this product heading? A user-centred design process is an essential tool for projects reliant upon user adoption for success over time. When a project team is united in serving the needs of their users, they often develop a far better solution with a solid scalable foundation as they are focused on a clear direction throughout development. Working agile is empowered by confidence in a focus you refine over time.
